Well I am back from A-kon. The con was alright, thought the table location this year was out of the way from the main Artist Alley and from what I'd heard from some folks was they couldn't find me until the very end and didn't even know there was another section of the Artist Alley.

Though I did manage to survive, hilariously it seemed this con was bound determined to confuse me by buying out all the things that I normally don't sell too much of and ignoring the stuff that I expected to sell. But ah well, thus is life.

Though as per usual I met lots of cool people and as per usual I'm paranoid that everyone who met me is convinced I am mildly retarded. At cons my eloquence tends to wear out sometime in the middle of Saturday, after that all my people skills are running on fumes. So for the lovely people I met after that I hope no one judged me too harshly.

The trip home back from Dallas was the most eventful one I'd had in a long time. This was my first time driving myself to and from a convention, and the trip up went by more or less without a hitch.

However after getting out of Dallas on Sunday I noticed my car was starting to run hot and the engine wasn't cooling down. We hurriedly pulled off into a town and got my father the engineer on the phone. M parents came up to get me and my friend Karen, so we ended up cooling our heels in a 24 hour burger joint for 3 or 4 hours waitng for them.

The end diagnosis is Abe Sapien my beloved station wagon needed a new radiator and thermostat. My car is still being worked on at the Ford dealership in that town. My mom stayed behind to turn in the car and my dad drove me and Karen back to Spring. We were all tired, and short tempered and about ready to keel over so I ended up talking about the history of animation in general and Disney studios specifically until I got too car sick to talk.

But now I'm back home and have had some sleep under my belt and am feeling much better. Though I'm still exhausted and tomorrow or the next day we have to go back on a 3 or 4 hour trip to pick Abe up from the dealership.

In the mean time I'm mentally recharging, and hilariously enough I'm stoked to do more work. I might start hacking at the script for The Project again or just keel over again.

So Hurricane Ike has blown through here and left its mark on the area. All my family and friends' familes are fine with minimal damage to them and their property. Most everyone I know has no power but are otherwise fine.

Houston itself was hit pretty hard as was Galveston. Huntsville got out somewhat better but there is still alot of damage and everyone in the county has an enforced curfew they have to follow. That plus the wristbands the university makes us wear if we are staying on campus gives one the odd feeling we are in a police state. But we expect everything to return to normal at least by Tuesday. Classes however are canceled until Wenesday so I have got plenty of time on my hands to shirk on homework.

The eternal slumber party continues down stairs though everyone's movie collection seems to have worn out their welcome and there is now a very long session of Guitar Hero going on. The slumber party mood was increased for me and the roomie when the fire alarms downstairs decided to set off their emergency power alarms. Our room is far enough away it doesn't bother us but we had a friend downstairs who crashed on our floor to get away from the noise. The result was none of us really slept and instead gossiped about geek stuff till about five in the morning.

Though this has surreal amount of doing nothing is getting old, I do beleive I will be grateful when we are back at normal activities.

So once again it is hurricane time upon us. Except this time it seems to be actually hitting us as opposed to coming towards us and then sucker punching another county. Nope this one is hitting Houston and coming up the main high way and hitting my little college town with slightly less force.

My folks have battened down the hatches back home and my roommate and I have moved everything we vaguely care about away from the dorm window where hurricane winds might possibly make the tree outside our dorm an indoor resident. This means that my Behemoth of a desk top (which normally lives under the desk next to the window) has been unplugged and wrapped up in plastic and moved to higher shelf space. My only current connection to the internet is my roommates laptop that we are leaving up and connected as long as it seems alright. So don't go expecting any amazing journalism coming from this blog.

Right now all we can do is wait and count down the hours (few) until the hurricane makes its way here and see what falls out.

In the mean time I'm going to play Arkham Horror with my dorm mates in the lobby.

So apparently hurricane season isn't over yet and my area is going to get pounded by hurricane Ike. Sadly there gets to be a point when you stop worrying about things and wait for hell to break lose. Thankfully I am currently on a college campus where this is quite possible and someone else gets to worry about feeding me and fixing any damage that'll happen due to the storm.

It appears that the dorm here will be even emptier than usual on a weekend which is alright with me. My roommate and I have enough ingredients in our fridge to make things if we are stuck in our dorm but have power and plenty of things to eat if we don't have power. We have also stocked up on flashlights and emergency lanterns and most importantly we have a very long board game to pass the time so we should be just fine.

Anyways I'm off to watch some anime before the world ends, I'll keep ya'll posted if anything interesting happens.

The storm turned quite a bit so we got only bad thunderstorm conditions around here. Damage here is minimal, the power had been out for a few days and we have alot of shaken up tree branches.

Though fuel is at a premium right now so all sorts of extraneous trips are canceled. I suspect that alot of errands shall be trailed together more often. At least until the gas prices go down.

Staying at my sis' was fun, though there were set backs. Mainly it was too crowded for me to be left alone to get any work done. And sleeping in the air mattress in the middle of the living floor wasn't too much fun, with everyone walking through it at all hours to have a panic attack, or get a glass of water or to chat with someone in the kitchen.

But over all there was lots of bonding, craziness, and much planning to get me the hell outta this area and into college at a real college. My sis also paid for my Oni Con pre registration since the deadline was so close I feared mom wouldn't even remember it.

I also finally got my paisley Cthulu plushie and my game of Ninja Burger, which was as hilarious and fun as advertised.

Also played a couple games of Arkham Horror, never got to the end but got pretty damn close the second time. My first character was some spoiled flapper girl who managed to kci some ass and seal some gates. Though she kept getting sucked into Ry'leh and tripping and slipping on rocks, which sucked. My second character got lots of good loot so she was f-ing lethal monster killing wise and had lots of re roll abilities which kicked ass. Great fun game, it's just damn expensive and is a bit more enjoyable if one has more than passing knowledge of Lovecraft.

The house power is on, the water is back on, waterheater lit, fridge empty, plastic drapes off furniture, cats out of boxes and harnesses and the air conditioner is starting to get things livable again. I'm now waiting for my turn in the shower.

Plus there are rolling blackouts in the area where my work place is.

I don't think I'll be working tommorow.

Life is good.

Ok so we haven't gotten out yet. Traffic was bad, wall to wall cars as far as the eye could see. Lots of cars running out of gas or overheating and dying. Not a comforting view. So we stayed here for today and wrapped more stuff up in plastic and packed more stuff.

We're almost all set up to go in the morning. Which we are, the storm may have weakened and moved but it is still rather large and a category 4 storm. No taking any chances.

I'll probably have more detailed crazy Rita posts after we get out. Right now I can't focus on it cause I just don't want to.

So until then look at Count Olaf.com. Its quite amusing with some awesome stickers and hilarious edited movie trailer.

So we are leaving town tommorow afternoon. We are packing up the vehicles and going to Oklahoma.

College is closed until further notice and work has waved the white flag for the rest of the week.

Mom seems convinced we won't have a house after this, she's got me freaking out now.

Anyways, we are almost all packed up, I've got my art supplies, portfolios and my vital geek stuff all packed up. Still gotta juggle a few things but other than that....FUCK

I'm trying to go to bed now...in my own bed...that's a luxury I won't have for a while. At my sister's I always end up on the freezing cold air matress in the living room with my mom snoring on the couch. I never get any good sleep then.

Say a prayer folks. Lets hope all this is here when we get back.

Will post updates when I can, provided I can get to a computer.

I call in sick to work after having only 3 hours of sleep last night. I had stayed up late to study for a bio test so I feel the ends justify the means.

I take a five hour nap, I wake up and my folks are gathering emergency supplies for Tropical Storm Rita. Apparently she may head this way and no one told me or mentioned it all today until now. In fact I get bitched at for not knowing as if somewhere in school, working the phones or dreaming my f-ed up dreams I'm supposed to know this.

So Galveston is evacuating, how much is just panicking speculation after Katrina and how much is warranted, no one will tell me once again.

My mom is mailing and sending insurance info to my sis in Oklahoma, and she's filling every spare bottle we have full of water. My dad is getting gas for the generator.

Could someone please tell me...

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?

UPDATE - 10:42 pm

Apparently it's heading for us and its supposed to be pretty bad in comparison to reports I picked up online. So I've been warned by my dad to get packing.

We've agreed that my artwork and computer hardrive are a priority. Everything else in my opinion is replacable.

EDIT-
I really have no idea how bad it is, the news reports here tend to blow everything out of proportion. The weather channel online thing said it would be a weak hurricaine.

But bear in mind my dad is the eternally cautious, paranoid boyscout. So we pack and prepare and Lissa gets griched at cause no one bothered to teach her to drive other wise we'd havee the van and the SUV and the truck to haul junk around in.

Believe me I'm annoyed too, I'd like to know we had the space for me to take all my art stuff. But ah well, live simply and all that rot.

Maybe I can get some practice in before the shit goes down, provided shit does.
