So I returned yesterday from a short excursion home to try to salvage what I could of my earthly possessions from my flooded childhood home.

Things weren't as bad as I thought they were; they were in fact worse. The rain seeped through the weep holes in our brickwork into the low parts of our foundation and into the house. It was assumed most of the damage would be to areas along the outside wall, in my room the water seeped and soaked along all four walls and into all my closet, there was no carpet left to salvage it all had to be ripped up and my furniture moved or disassembled. When we ripped it all up the only dry patch in my room was a 2ft wide squarish patch in the very center of the room.

Loss wise, its hard to judge, I lost a few blank sketchpads,a large quantity of loose sketches (mainly concept work for a story project I hope to do one day.)My first sketchbook (from when I was like nine) go damp but it has dried out and while not in great shape it is still around,

I also lost some old roleplaying logs and a few books and comics and an untold amount of clothes and socks. However I did end up finally throwing away lots of stuff that should have been thrown out ages ago.

Thankfully, my furniture looks like it might survive, and my printer and scanner appear to be unscathed. But it still seems like it will be a while before I have my bed back in the room.

So the situation could be better, but it could also be much much worse
