Well as far as conventions go I have to say I really enjoyed this one even if I wasn't wandering around doing things. I'm not one to wave around my wad and gloat, so I'll just say that yes, I did well, yes, I broke even and then some. Lissa is once again not broke. Though it's not enough money to warrant me running around buying lots of things.
Alright the trip to Dallas was alright. I discovered the joys of Castlevania on the Gameboy Advance which Lacy borrowed from her brother. So I spent the car trip yelling at the pretty Belmont boy and bitching at him for not jumping properly. Fortunately this trip we were spared the cost of a motel on Thursday night and stayed with Lacy's very nice very generous aunt and uncle.
The trip to the hotel however was rather interesting, we had printed up some mapquest maps to get to the Adam's Mark from Lacy's relatives house. Or we THOUGHT we had, after we followed these directions and realized that we had passed the hotel, passed the downtown area and was heading into low traffic areas we realized that we had directions to reach the Q Mark Adams Hospital, in the suburbs. Finding our way to the hotel after that was entertaining to say the least.
The car ended up parking a few blocks away on the far side of the Plaza of the Americas and in the glorious Texas heat it became a strenuous task to get luggage from the car to the hotel.
Stuff at the table went rather well, we had music going and people actually bought stuff unlike Oni Con. We also got to hang out and room with the ever awesome Fireball and Rain who we met at last A-Kon. Thanks to them I have now heard a remix of Closer with Supermario Bros. and some Harry Potter raps, that was definately quite brain breaking.
I cannot tell you how the con itself was since I spent most of my time at the table. However I will say there were more cross dressing Lolitas then last year, which was a bit weird. And the guy who played Chewbacca was hella tall. I passed him on my way to the bathroom and felt most tiny.
Met all sorts of cool cosplayers, made aquaintance with some guy dressed as Anderson from Hellsing, he was fun and didn't mind me heckling him at Hentai fest (he was still in crazy priest garb and I just had to.)
I also met up with theartma (will add lj tag when I can) who had some amazing JTHM and V for Vendetta costumes. As a footnote: a Guy Fawkes mask is terrifiying in real life, I knew she was going to pop up in V costume and such and I still almost jumped out of my chair when she did. There was also a Jareth cosplayer that Lacy sent to the table it took me a few happy minutes to recover and ask to take his picture.
Hentai fest which was the only event of the con I made it to & it was extremely boring compared to last year. I was tired and wished they'd quit the raffles and everything and just get to the point of the event. And when they did it was repetitive as hell compared to last year's showing of The Box, which had been a train wreck that I could not look away from and will never ever ever describe ever.
So I left like 15 minutes in the show and headed off to the room and ended up getting some Malibu (or rather I hope it was Malibu) dumped on me while trying to get on an elevator. I smelled like bad coconuts for the rest of the evening, I do not think my flannel will ever be the same.
I did a few commision pieces, basic things like portraits and anime characters and such. Had one interesting commission that may indeed involve repeat business. So good times all around.
Anyway I'm off to go look at my new Tarot deck (I bought for the pictures) and play with my new markers before I keel over and fall asleep again.
