Fanfic- the short and the long of it

OMG FANFIC WRITERS STOP MAKING JACK SPARROW MONOGAMOUS PLZTHX.
I keep trying to read fanfic, I'm a masochist at heart and this is just another way I express it. Another way of expressing it is insisting on running a con table when I am horrible with people. But anyways, I digress.
This occasion it was Pirates fanfic I was in the mood for, sometimes I can find something horribly awful enough to keep me entertained. Sometimes I just beat my head on the desk repeatedly until I stop reading. Tonight is one of those occasions.
Aside from the usual flock of Mary Sues that plague the fandom I run across a gamut of Elizabeth and Jack fics. My mouse invariably goes to these like a lemming to the ocean. (I actually think deep down I click on these cause I want some sort of romance involving Jack with no Mary Sue's attached to it.)
I dunno what I hope for, something intelligently written, some general angsting on Elizabeth's part? Jack being stupid and Elizabeth going back to Will cause she realizes it really would never work out between her and Jack. But of course not after shenanigans.
Nope, instead most people tend to write Jack as broken hearted over Elizabeth marrying Will. Pining away, not eating, not wenching, not even drinking as he longs for this flower of womanhood. I refuse to believe there will be a day Jack stops drinking, I am of the school of thought that Jack drinks to forget, it seems likely he'd hit the bottle harder. But that's not romantic enough for these fangirls, so instead we get annoyingly sober and sane Jack Sparrrow, which is no Jack Sparrow at all. In which case I escape that written hell and try the next one.
My second complaint is the whole monogamy thing. Monogamy is a wonderful thing, with the right people. Some people can find that right person they want to spend their life with. Others can't find someone else to open up to and never do that. Then there are some who aren't looking for relationships and are just sluts.
Jack is a slut. Well more to the point I believe he is more of the 'married to the sea' sort. He likes freedom, he likes being able to do what and who he wants. The only thing he's sure to stay faithful to is his ship. Hell, the closest thing he has to a relationship is wooing the same two stumpets on Tortuga. Even in that case there are TWO of them and his relationships are not built on trust at all.
So I find it especially urking when people write Jack as a faithful sort of lover. I find it even sillier when one writes him as faithfully married. Married as in he cherishes the spouse involved and will do anything for them and sacrifice anything for them etc. Jack's life revolves around himself, he is the sun, moon and stars in his own little galaxy. He may have attachments, he may have relationships, but none of them are liable to be lasting.
So please fanfic writers next time you want to write some Jack love, stay in character. I want to read about the adventures of Jack Sparrow, not some Johnny Depp shaped husk of a pirate who is late for his photo shoot for the newest romance novel.
