Hoo boy does the network of comic and indie artists have a grand story right now. I was going to post some rather depressing cartoon of myself and such but I decided that can wait if in fact anyone who reads this hasn't heard of this tidbit.

Ok, so those kinda blah shirts that say 'boys are smelly, throw rocks at them' or whatever and that empty eyed girl who might be Lenore but it wasn't quite there. I like many other assumed it was just some studio knock off cranked out to catch the wave.
Those designs are all put together by one man, Todd Goldman.

EDIT - Apparently Eve L (the lenore but not quite) is made by artist Emily M Keyishan who signed up with Todd to sell shirts. Though I don't see her name anywhere on Todd's page. Plus there are more designs in the style that Todd has signed. Call my crazy but Ange L, Crue L, and Dev L don't look like they were designed by the same person as Eve.

And he apparently has been blatantly ripping other people's designs for ages now and making money. The rips also apparently seems include a design from an t-shirt my roomate has had for years. Though currently he's taken his 'brilliant ideas' and his 'creativity' to new heights, that of 'Fine Art'. I wish I was shitting you but I'm not.

The buzz of the show was this piece (yes that is a hotlink, dis is bad, but I'm a PMS-y art studentI've got to stick the man somehow) Which looks alot (by alot I mean 'just like it) like this webcomic page.

Anyways, as Something Awful, where the original artist of the the cat is a well known member,
has done the foot work and such I'll link over there so you guys can catch the
rest of this. Also [livejournal.com profile] taxidermied - Roman Dirge is talking about his experience with the Lenore ripoff stuff.

Personally as an artist I get furious at such situations. I have no idea what I'd do if I discovered someone was selling copies of my work for 5 digit amounts and I wasn't getting a damn thing. Hell I have no idea what I'd do if an internet noob stole some art thats bigger than an lj icon. This sort of shit has been happening for centuries but that does not mean we have to accept it or close our eyes to it.
