I'm Singing in the Rain
Nov. 17th, 2003 08:52 pmWell at the end of my sixth period class I was ready to hop on the bus and get home, take a nap, scan some photos with the new scanner and then sit on me ass for a while. Maybe work on me webpage, I hadn't done that in a while. It was a dreary rainy day and I was eager to get in a warm dry spot to watch the rain from and enjoy the sound of it on the roof.
I was also intending to post a bit about my trip to Renfest on Saturday. But plans often die suddenly. I ran out of photography class expecting to miss my bus. I get there to discover that my bus has been delayed due to some road flooding. Then after a few minutes the radio blares out and then its announced that all students on the bus need to get off the bus and in the school and that there'll be another bus to pick us up in a few hours.
Well I was at least expecting the principals to say something about the situation but instead they disappeared. As me and many kids from my bus trudged back in the school door lugging our water logged selves inside I saw many of the teachers in an almost hurried panic for the door. I swear some had this sorta nervous 'its ok...this isn't our problem' look on their face.
I ran into a really old friend that had become aloof overtime. She lives in my neighborhood, she asked if I had a ride home, did I need a ride home? She was kind enough to lend me her cell phone which I used to contact my mom. After checking with my dad and checking the road it was decieded it was better for me to stay where I was, why didn't I sit down draw a picture of my friend and try to enjoy life?
Well I got mad and sat down outside the building under the canopy since inside it was too loud, crowded and echoey. Chatted with my friend for a bit then shortly after some anime aquantance showed up and we proceeded to become dorks and skip about in the rain since we had nothing better to do. We almost did the whole Gene Kelly thing but I forgot the words. After a while I remembered he wanted my help drawing hands and such so we sat down and pulled out our skecthbooks. And I explained and rambled on about hands, faces, skeletons, motion etc.
Now while this was all going on we had left a door that led inside open, because after school hours the doors lock themselves and its impossible to open the door from the outside. Well a principal came by said that there was some rule against having the door open and proceeded to shut it. Luckily the door shut slowly so we caught it and stuck our heads in to discover that the fiend had dissapeared into thin air. Indeed, most the office staff and authority figures had left. So we propped the door open with a bright ornage glittery pencil that most peopl failed to notice and chattered on for a bit.
After a while, Fernando ,a guy that sits at my lunch table, showed up and needed help on a character sketch for something. So I once again explained, drew and rambled for a bit. Then it got damp so we wandered in and Fernando flipped through my skecthbook, oohing and ahing over everything and asked if I ever consider selling my art. So my ego got some boosting today which was ok.
Half an hour later, everyone but five people have gone home, Aaron and I are still chatting and debating about ransaking an office or two. Then it appears that its 4:30 so I deciede to head to the bus area and see if the bus ever showed up. Low and Behold there was a friendly middle aged man in a bus drivers uniform asking if anyone needed a ride to my neighborhood. I almost hugged the guy. Only one other person besides Aaron and me needed a ride so we all gleefully hopped on. Discovered that the water in front of the next door middle school was two feet deep or so. Fortunately the streets for our neighborhood had somehow cleared up.
I got home, two and a half hours later then I normally do, my mom hugged me and greeted me with some fresh bread. After that we wacthed the news, apparently Houstons having flooding issues. My dad got home from work and the grocery store he'd been stuck in traffic for hours but we had milk and bread and bananas now so we were alright. Then we wacthed more flooding and tornado footage.
I hope they close school tommorow
