A-Kon 2009 Report

So, I came back from A-kon, had to help my sick mom yesterday then I got about twelve or fourteen hours of sleep. I'm feeling much more human, though my voice is still lurking on the gravely octaves of exhaustion and talking too much.
So A-kon was successful and thoroughly exhausting. The new table display (that someone has pictures of, not me though) worked awesomely and was only a bitch when we were putting up and taking down. I apologize to my fellow con artists for the avalanche of metal shelving on Sunday afternoon that may have disrupted their table.
The banner was a hit and seemed to work, people liked it and the studio name seemed to stick in their minds abit better. So that was about two or three days of work well spent.
Sales were crazy this year, we sold prints, all sizes of prints. The phone charms seemed to work out well this con, last con they were an experiment and needed lots of improvement. As usual of course we sold alot of buttons, and we even ran out of extra parts this con so by Saturday which was another first for us.
In general convention matters, the complaints we had were things that had little to do with the Artist Alley. The parking was expensive, for the whole weekend it was about 50 bucks per car, we brought two cars, one for people, one for luggage, this proved to be quite expensive. There apparently had been a fire alarm going off in the main hotel in the wee hours of the morning, our group stayed at the Westin and thus we were unbothered by this.
The steam punk ball was fun, my last minute closet scrambling outfit actually got a few compliments, though the DJ seemed to think that techno and nothing but techno was appropriate music for a crowd of people who dress in victorian garb. Those of us who were dressed in less fancy clothes could flail around but there were some folks who sat on the side lines and watched due to lack of anything to dance to. This trend seemed to carry on to the masquerade, which is typically another ball room type event. So note for future reference A-KON: LAY OFF THE F-ING TECHNO!!
All in all, this was a good convention, and I'm hoping to do at least one more con this summer before going to school and focusing on my (hopefully) final year of school.
Off to catch up on sleep, later peeps!
